Command Master Chief Chad Lunsford

Command Master Chief Lunsford, a Bloomington, California native, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April  1992. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, with follow-on orders to Fire Controlman “A” and “C” Schools, all in Great Lakes, Illinois. 

At sea, he served aboard USS Rushmore (LSD 47), USS Preble (DDG 88), and USS Dewey (DDG 105). 

His shore billets included Fleet Training Center, San Diego as an instructor and Naval Medical Center San 

Diego’s mental health directorate as senior enlisted leader. 


He became a Command Master Chief in 2010 and has led as a CMC with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 94; aboard USS America (LHA 6); for Navy Region Southwest; with the U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Training Team; for Naval Leadership and Ethics Command San Diego; and for Program Executive Office, Ships. 


He assumed his current duties for a second tour as Naval Leadership and Ethics Command San Diego CMC and PACFLT CPO Training Team lead in December 2021. He officially retires from active duty May 1st, 2024 after 32 years of honorable service. 

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct Medal (ten awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and numerous unit and campaign awards. He is authorized to wear Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Fleet Marine Force pins. 



CMDCM Lunsford is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 141/Brown). In addition to a bachelor’s degree in business management from National University, he earned a Master of Business Administration and a doctorate in business administration, focused on management and organization, from Trident University International.
